THE STRUCTURED RUNWAY

Now that the holidays are over, I better put my work face on! I know this post is a bit late because I was on a holiday right after this show so I've been a bit busy but here I am. Better late than never right?  If you've been reading my previous blog posts I was asked to be part of 'The Structured Runway' when I went for my interview in Southampton Solent University. I was overwhelmed to be a part of this amazing show and there was no way I could have missed the chance.

You might have noticed that most of the garments are different apart from one. This is because I wanted to add designs that are more structural and of course, which are Architecture inspired.
(Backstage action before the show; pictures from The Structured Runway page in Facebook)
(Designs from Tamara Joseph)
(Collaboration of Tk Maxx and Swatch)
(Laura Stockl designs)
The fact that all of the other designers were from well known companies like Tk Maxx, Foxy lady, Devernois, Klass designs and other graduated designers like Laura Stockl who is a young and upcoming designer where her above collection was showcased in Graduate Fashion Week 2013 in London made me feel nervous and insecure at the same time however; looking at the positive side it was a huge opportunity for an Art & Design foundation student where I'm a newbie in the world of fashion but I have to admit that I was very pleased with my work.
This is what I wore that day; a little mini black dress on the inside made with Pvc  and using a bright yellow felt fabric I made a coat/ cardigan/bodyscarf  outer wear that covered up my dress; not completely, as you can see the dress from the side ways and styled it with my glitter belt. To complete my look, I wore my ankle boots from River Island and a clutch bag from Primark
Overall, the decorations were great and the show was organised very well. In fact, It couldn't have been any better. And there it was, my first fashion show ever.. All I can say is what a fab night it was!

So, this will be my last post before I head off to Chicago tomorrow early morning. I went shopping for my holiday and  found these amazing accessories that comes with a great value and some of which are on sale right now. I usually buy my accessories in Topshop and New look sometimes but this time I had bit of change and found the necklaces and rings above in Miss selfridge. And the rest from Primark. I've tried the natural fake lashes from Primark before and they are absolutely gorgeous, although I have to admit that the Glue's are not one of the best!

SHOWTIME IN SOUTHAMPTON

So, I have a very very exciting news and I could not wait to share it with you guys. I had an interview with Southampton Solent university yesterday and it went really well,in fact; It couldn't have been any better. After looking through my portfolio and my sketchbooks, the interviewer was really impressed with my work especially with my recent project  "Architecture Inspired" collection (you'll know if you've had a look at my blog, insta, facebook and other social sites..) so they immediately asked me to be part of their upcoming fashion show "The Structured Runway". I know that this is a very rare opportunity for a student studying in a foundation degree so there was no way I would not take this opportunity.

The other thing that I'm really looking forward to in this show is collaborating with a  mixture of highstreet, designer collections and stores such as TK Maxx, Swatch, Foxy Lady, Devenois, Klass Design plus many more designers yet to be added in this event. Also, this will be the first time where someone will be wearing my design in a runway show.  Therefore, I'm really nervous but excited at the same time (a pool of emotions)!!

The venue will be taking place in "Grand Cafe" based in Southampton. According, to my research Grand Cafe is a beautiful restaurant based in one of Southampton's oldest buildings - South Western House. Built in 1872 South Western House was the most lavish hotel around, first class passengers who were boarding the Titanic stayed there. But in this 21st century, this building holds appartments and the resturant "Grand Cafe".

The place will be set up according to the fashion Runway show but the venue looks amazing! I most definately look forward to it. The address of the "Grand Cafe" is South Western House, Southampton, SO14 3AS and the show is taking place on Thursday 3rd of April 2014 at 6:30pm but I will also be there on Wednesday to do model fitting and choosing the shoes & accessories for my model from the designers collection.

If you have time and your interest lies within fashion or you go to the Solent University please do come to the show but you'll need to get your tickets as this show has been very popluar and they're running out of them. So get yours as soon as you can! GO! GO! GO!

ARCHITECTURE INSPIRED!

(Special thanks to my bestie babs who is/would make an absolute gorgeous model)
(And, to my Nahmazing sis Nabina, somehow managed to do a professional shoot at home)
Last but not least, wearing my fav design and styling it with fur!

Introducing my Architecture inspired designs! This asymmetric designs with bold prints was the result of  research and in-depth studying of buildings; mostly Art deco. Being a girl who loves bright colours, this project was a huge challenge for me to come out of my comfort zone and experiment with Black & White which is very unlikely of me. (Not that I hate Black & White, It just doesn't feel right without colours). I did try  the prints in different colours but nothing worked the best like it did on these colours.
As Karl Lagerfeld would say-"One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress."
Phew! so don't know how I managed to make three designs in that short amount of time but nevertheless, got a DISTINCTION OMG which I'm very very pleased about. Kudos! to my beautiful two models who played a major role in my project. we had so much fun doing our shoot with good laughs and yes, I am the stylist, designer and photographer behind the scenes boss.
The next project will be my last one for this year (still can't believe how quickly this year has gone by), It will be nothing like my designs you've seen so far; Its about time I step up my game even further. I'm really pushing myself to see and explore what I'm really capable of.  Life really is about challenging your boundaries, trying something new and enjoying your journey throughout. And don't forget - just have fun!
Laters,

LONDON FASHION WEEKEND

My shoes are from ASOS; trousers Jane norman; bag Primark; belt Primark, watch Michael Kors
____________________________________________________

So,here's what I wore in London Fashion Weekend, Somerset house really does look amazing in the background even though the weather was not one of the best but on the positive side,  it wasn't as worst either. This was also my very first time visiting the show after wanting to go for years. Last year, I really wanted to go but since I was only seventeen, I had to bring an adult with me but some of the friends I asked didn't showed much interest; apart from my friend who was the same age as me. (started from the bottom now I'm here:P ,Jokes.)

I had an absolutely amazing day street- styling and wearing one of my OWN design, YES my own. Believe me or not but I made this coat in less than three hours, It was a very rushed piece but nevertheless I was very pleased with it. The amount of positive feedback I got from people that I met in London Fashion Weekend and the continuous request of taking the picture of my outfit was just a big highlight of that day. Not only has it increased my confidence level but it has also given me a  bit of  'hope' that maybe, I do belong in the world of designs; maybe.

The reason for using the baby blue colour is because this season its all about pastel colours and some vibrant colours like lime, bright orange. You may have noticed by now, I have a mutual connection towards bright bold colours whether it is in a college project work or fashion styling. so therefore, I wanted to create a unique piece to wear with an outstanding colour; one that would stand out in the crowd. It wasn't until the mid way while making the garment that I decided why not just a sleeve on one side of my coat to add a bit of edgy feel. So I did.

Trying out some outstanding sunglasses from Sun hut with babs!
And, some Swatch watches who have brought out the pastel, candy colours this season..

The trend CATWALK was 40 minutes long which highlighted the must have trends for SS14;
PRECIOUS METALS, FLOWER POWER, LACE UP & GOOD SPORT. The collection overall was absolutely outstanding but my favourite one has definitely got to be Lace up because Lace has always been my favourite. But, they say that this year it's all about flower power and yes, I do agree. To look more into the trend catwalk visit this link!!! I will definitely be adding some floral dresses in my wardrobe this season and to see some of my styles please do keep an eye on my blog!

till next time,
